Walker Elementary School is home to more than 300 kindergarten through fifth grade students. Most instruction is from a homeroom teacher, differentiated to meet the needs of individual learning styles and ability. Specials, such as fine arts, physical education, and media library are taught outside the homeroom. In these disciplines, students continue to benefit from highly qualified teachers who have specialized knowledge or certifications. Walker School, located in the Village of Skokie, is part of Evanston/Skokie School District 65, where students experience high-quality teaching and learning, and are prepared for continued academic success. Teachers also have opportunities for
continued learning to help them stay current in best educational practices. The Walker School Community collaborates in a variety of ways to foster academic achievement, creative learning experiences, and positive character development. The school mission statement expresses an ambition to prepare students to become lifelong learners, responsible and productive citizens.
Urgent Letter Concerning Parent Teacher Conferences
Dear Walker Parents,
The Walker School Community has traditionally experiencedhigh levels of participation during Parent–Teacher Conferences. We are lookingforward to continuing this level of participation during our upcoming FallConference, Monday, October 17 and Wednesday, October 19 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
The Parent-Teacher Conference is a vital means of insuringongoing school-to-home and home-to-school communication. It is a two-waychannel, an opportunity for both teacher and parent to ask questions, makesuggestions, and promote further interactions on behalf of the student. This isthe time to determine up-to-date progress in subjects and skills, developknowledge of actions needed to improve or maintain progress, and to establishroles teachers and parents will play in promoting student achievement. Pleaseknow that we are available to meet with you outside of the establishedconference schedule in order to discuss any aspect of your child’s schoolexperience. We are looking forward to seeing you next week, and again inFebruary, during the upcoming Winter Conference.
