Walker Elementary student featured in national magazine

Speech language pathologists in D65 work with students with verbal diversity, including people who stutter. In its quarterly magazineThe Stuttering Foundation regularly includes a call for student letters “about your dreams, your victories, the fears you have faced, the ways you’ve been challenged, or anything you wish people knew about stuttering!” After reading many students’ perspectives together, District 65 speech language pathologist Lisa Levine encouraged one of her Walker Elementary students, Curtis, to submit his own letter. His writing was featured in the fall 2025 issue!

In his letter, Curtis describes his pets, family, hobbies, and interests, like going to theme parks and playing Roblox. He concludes with a reflection on being a person who stutters. “I started stuttering near 2022,” he wrote in his letter. “When I stutter, I usually use pausing. Now I feel better speaking in front of crowds.” Thank you for sharing your story, Curtis!
